Are You Giving Your Dream the Leftovers?
Scripture: Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”
Can I be real? By the time you’ve cooked the meals, responded to the work emails, folded the laundry, settled the argument between the kids (or coworkers), served at church, and made sure everyone else’s world is still turning—there’s hardly anything left for your dream.
And that God-given vision that once burned bright? It’s barely flickering because life keeps showing up with a long to-do list. So what do we give the vision? Leftovers. If anything at all and then sometimes you end up resenting doing for everyone else except yourself.
You’re not lazy. You’re not faithless. You’re tired.
But here's the thing: your calling deserves more than your crumbs. And deep down, you know that. Not because it’s about hustle culture or chasing success, but because God entrusted you with something sacred—and you’re worthy of walking it out fully, not just when everyone else’s needs have been met.
God doesn’t ask you to abandon your responsibilities—but He does call you to steward your purpose alongside them. Let’s talk about how.
Does this sound like you?
You’re the first one up and the last one to sleep. By the time you sit down to work on your book, business idea, or that course God told you to create—it’s 11 PM and your eyelids are in full agreement with your bed.
You pour into everyone at church. You teach, you lead, you serve. But when it’s time to pour into the dream God gave you, there’s no oil left.
You’ve told yourself “when things slow down.” But sis, life rarely slows down. It just shifts—and if you don’t prioritize what God placed in your heart, something else will.
So what can you do? Here are some intentional shifts that make room for your vision:
Start with God, not the grind.
Before the texts and tasks come rolling in, give God your first. Even 15 minutes of early morning clarity can reroute your day. Ask: Lord, what’s the one thing You want me to do toward my vision today? Then do just that one thing - even if you have to during a lunch break.
Block the vision into your calendar—like you do everything else.
You don’t “find” time. You make it. Schedule your purpose like you would a doctor’s appointment or Sunday service. One hour a week with focused intention is better than waiting for a perfect day that never comes.
Shift from leftovers to firstfruits.
What if you gave the first hour after the kids go to school or before work (just twice a week) to write the outline, sketch the design, brainstorm the plan? God multiplies what we surrender to Him. He honors firstfruits.
Release perfection, embrace progress.
You don’t need a 5-hour work window or a team of 10. You just need to move forward with what you do have. One obedient step opens the door for the next.
Prayer:
Father, You see how much I carry—at home, at work, in ministry. And You also see the dream You planted in my heart. Help me not to bury what You gave me under the weight of daily demands. Give me the wisdom to prioritize well, the strength to keep going, and the courage to believe that my purpose matters too. Teach me to give You my best, not just my leftovers. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Final Thought:
You are not selfish for wanting to pursue your God-given dream. You are called. Your purpose is part of your worship. Don’t wait for life to make space—partner with God to create space. You’re not behind. You’re just being invited to realign.
Let today be the day you stop giving the dream what’s left... and start giving it what it’s worth.
Be Blessed!
