Devotional: You’re Not Behind – You’re Being Built

Scripture: 1 Peter 5:10 (NIV)

“And the God of all grace… after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”

Devotional:
There’s this lie that sneaks into our minds—especially when we scroll social media and see everyone else “doing the thing”—that we’ve missed it.
That we’re too late. Too old. Too far behind.

Some days I feel behind. Behind in progress, behind in results, behind in life. I look around at others and think, “Why is it happening for them and not for me yet?”

But God keeps reminding me—you’re not behind, daughter. You’re being built.
He’s more interested in who I’m becoming than how quickly I get there.

If you’ve felt the same—like you missed a deadline Heaven never gave you—you’re not alone. You’re not behind. You’re being built.

God is not in a rush, and He’s not pressed about timelines. He’s more interested in depth than speed.

If it’s taking longer than you thought, maybe it's because God is laying a stronger foundation in you.

We're not being punished—we're being positioned.
He's healing old wounds so they don’t sabotage our next.
He’s stretching our faith so we don’t fold under pressure.
He’s preparing you, because what’s ahead requires strength, not speed.

So no, you're not late. You’re right on schedule—heaven’s schedule.

That long pause in your journey isn’t punishment; it’s preparation.
The building season is often the quietest—but it’s also the most strategic. That’s where roots are planted.

What does “being built” look like in daily life?

  • It looks like learning contentment in a small room before God trusts you with a bigger one.

  • Practicing faithfulness when no one claps, no one sees, and nothing seems to move.

  • Digging into healing—not rushing past the hard stuff but letting God dig up the lies, trauma, and fear that would sabotage your next season.

  • Releasing comparison and replacing it with clarity: “What has God asked me to do—today?”

I’m walking through this, too. Some days it feels like I should be further along. But I’m realizing that if God is slowing me down, it’s because the foundation needs to be stronger.

And if it takes longer to get there but I arrive healed, whole, and obedient—that’s right on time.

Reflection Questions:

  • Where in my life do I feel “behind,” and what truth does God want me to believe instead?

  • What is God developing in me during this waiting season?

  • How can I partner with Him in the building process instead of rushing through it?

Prayer:
God, thank You for reminding me I’m not behind—You’re building something deep in me.
Help me trust the slow work of growth, healing, and maturity.
Protect me from comparison and impatience.
Let my foundation be so strong that when You open the door, I walk through it ready.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Be Blessed
