Favor Isn’t Always Comfortable

Scripture: Luke 1:28–29 (NIV)

“The angel went to her and said, ‘Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.’ Mary was greatly troubled at his words…”

We love the idea of God’s favor—open doors, divine connections, unexpected blessings. But if we’re honest, favor doesn’t always feel good.
When the angel greeted Mary, he called her “highly favored.” But what came next was life-altering: a divine assignment that would stretch her beyond comfort, reputation, and predictability.

I’ve experienced this in my own journey—times where the favor of God led me straight into responsibility. Where doors opened, but so did opposition. Where blessings came, but so did stretching. And if I’m being transparent, it didn’t always feel like favor.

It felt like pressure. It felt like fear. It felt like a lonely yes.

Favor isn’t about ease—it’s about assignment.

It doesn’t always mean applause—it often means obedience in private, even when misunderstood.

Mary didn’t ask for the assignment, but she said yes. And through her yes, the world was changed.

Practical Application:

  • Ask yourself: “What favor am I carrying right now that feels more like weight than reward?”

  • Journal one way you can steward the responsibility that comes with God’s favor this week.

  • Remind yourself: If He trusted you with it, He’s equipped you for it.

Prayer:
Lord, help me not to run from favor just because it feels uncomfortable.
Give me the strength to carry what You’ve entrusted to me, even when it costs me comfort.
Help me to say yes like Mary did—not because I understand everything, but because I trust You in all things.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Be Blessed
