Silencing the Inner Critic

Have you ever replayed a conversation in your head and thought, “Why did I say that? I’ll never get it right."

That relentless whisper—you’re not enough—is the inner critic. It pretends to be the truth but speaks only lies.

Romans 8:1 says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

The inner critic thrives on comparison and past mistakes. But conviction from the Holy Spirit always leads to hope and change, never shame. God’s voice invites you closer; the critic drives you into hiding, shame, and deeper sin.

So, if you've been self-critical lately - stop it! You are an overcomer by the blood of the lamb and by the word of your testimony. It's time for you to get your word - and read it.

You, my friend, will have to do the work to overcome the onslaught of negative thoughts the enemy is bombarding you with. Walking with Christ is a daily test-imony!

So, here's what I want you to do- right now...

  • Identify any/one recurring negative thought.

  • Repent of it (say it out loud. I repent of the negative words I have said about myself, that I ...)

  • Write it down. Get a piece of paper or an index card and write that thought down, and under it in a different color, write the truth - what God's word says.

  • Say the truth out loud and personalize it - as many times as you need to

  • Carry that truth with you and pull it out whenever that negative thought tries to slide back in and repeat that truth. Say it when you awake in the morning, as you drive to work, in the bathroom during break, as you sit on your couch. USE GOD's WORD.

Prayer
Father, thank You that in Christ there is no condemnation. Expose every lie I have agreed with and replace it with Your truth. Teach me to hear Your voice above the noise and to live boldly in the purpose You’ve placed in me. Amen.
