When Emotions Get the Best of Us

Have you ever acted out of character and then immediately felt that heavy conviction? You knew it was wrong. You knew God wasn’t pleased. And you knew—that’s not how a woman of purpose carries herself.

I had one of those days yesterday. Anger and irritation got the best of me, and I wrestled with it until 2:30 a.m., when I finally confessed to God, asked for forgiveness, and released it all.

But wouldn’t you know it—this morning the enemy came back. Same tactic, just a different method. And I almost fell for it again.

Sister, this is the reality of walking in purpose. The call on your life is real, which means the attacks will be real too. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10, NIV). The enemy wants to steal your peace, kill your joy, and destroy your faith. And too often, he tries to use our emotions to do it.

But God hasn’t left us powerless. He’s given us weapons—prayer, praise, worship, and His Word. Yesterday, I found it hard to pray because I was so upset, so I just let gospel music play for hours. Slowly, the anger began to lift, and I remembered: “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him” (Psalm 28:7, NIV).

So don’t let the enemy trick you into believing your emotions have the final say. When you stumble, run quickly back to God. When the attack comes, recognize it for what it is—and fight back with the tools He’s given you.

You are a daughter of the King. Your peace, joy, and faith are worth protecting. And when it feels too heavy, remember—you don’t have to carry it alone. Look to God. He will steady you every time.

Love and peace,
Tereciah
