Devotional: Your Obedience Is the Oil
Scripture: 2 Kings 4:5–6 (NIV)
“She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring.”
We often pray for overflow, for breakthrough, for oil… but overlook the obedience that unlocks it.
In 2 Kings, the widow had oil—but it didn’t multiply until she followed the prophet’s instructions. She gathered the jars. She shut the door. She poured.
What strikes me most is this: the miracle didn’t move until she did.
There have been seasons where I wanted God to show up before I obeyed.
“Lord, show me the results first.”
“Confirm it one more time.”
But He kept whispering, “Obey Me first. The oil comes after.”
Obedience isn’t always glamorous. Sometimes it looks like emailing five people when only one will respond.
Sometimes it looks like posting the content when you feel invisible.
Sometimes it means being faithful in private when no one else sees.
But make no mistake—obedience pours the oil.
Practical Application:
What’s one instruction God has given you that you’ve delayed acting on? Write it down and take one small step this week.
Ask yourself: Am I waiting for clarity when God’s already given me a command?
Reframe obedience as an invitation, not a burden—it’s where the miracle flows.
Prayer:
Lord, forgive me for the times I delayed obedience, waiting for perfect conditions. Help me to remember that breakthroughs follow obedience—not the other way around. Give me the courage to move even when I don’t feel ready.
Let every step I take in faith be met with Your supernatural oil.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Be Blessed
